Eunice Owonibi, a POS agent, has bagged six months jail term in Abuja for defrauding an unsuspecting customer of N97,000.

Eunice was reported to have used the customer’s ATM card to make the withdrawal when the customer, Faith Okpanachi, asked for N3,000 withdrawal from her bank account. The POS agent had told Faith that the transaction was unsuccessful because of a poor network.

The prosecuting counsel, Ojo Idowu Esq, told the court that Faith, who is from the same community as the fraudulent POS operator, later found out that N97,000 was debited from her account following the N3,000 transaction.

The judge, Abdulrahman Ibrahim, said the court found Eunice guilty of the crime after a bank account statement bearing the complainant’s name was tendered by the prosecutor, which showed that the withdrawal was made.

The court ordered Eunice to return the N97,000 to the complaint and was also sentenced to six months’ imprisonment with an option of N20,000 fine.
